Hi Guys and girls
So my father in laws bakkie blew an oil pump a few months back. The mechanic quoted him R35k to overhaul his engine.
Since hes a pensioner (state) he cannot afford this. We have now being buying the components to overhaul the engine ourselves. We fetched the bakkie from the mechanic, but it has been stripped and all the parts are laying in the back.
I have helped people in the past to recon an engine, but it will be the first time I attempt it alone.
Parts acquired so far :
Piston rings
Gasket set
Bigend and main bearings
Oil pump
Water pump
I have read a bit here and there and believe we still need to get new head bolts.
Since the bakkie has been standing a while (6months) there has been some light surface rust on the crankshaft , so I have taken it to an engineering shop for a polish.
There doesnt seem to be any other damage what I can see, only the oil pump that seized.
Is there maybe a pdf manual available for this engine? If the engine was in one piece it would be easier...
Any tips and tricks will be appreciated.

Hi Again
My progress so far...
I received the crankshaft back from the engineering shop , all good no cracks etc. So just a polish.
I have honed the block , installed new piston rings and then installed big end and mains bearings. Crankshaft torqued , engine turns smoothly.
Im about to install the oil pump where I have to stop and ask a question. The new oil pump has a paper gasket and I found a metal gasket in the boxes of tricks received from the mechanic.
The question is do I fit the new paper gasket and omit the metal one or do they work together?
I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how to

Hi, Use the metal gasket and make sure that you use silicon on both sides of the gasket.

Sump installed New oil seal installed (the one by the crankshaft / flywheel ) Flywheel wheel is on and clutch & pressure plate is on. So for my next question. I notice some play on the crank, It seems it was already there before the engine was torn apart as there is scraping marks on the block from the flywheel. It feels like +- 1mm. Is this normal?
