My central locking seems to have stopped working. It started making a strange noise like the motor was stuck or something then it stopped working alltogether. Any ideas

This might be a stupid question... but where is the solenoid located in a 160IE?

my bru, rather look stupid and ask questions, than pretending to know and be stupid ok, end of lecture, you need to take the doorcards off. you'll see by your lock, there is a steel rod connected to a cylinder with wires. that is the solenoid. I will check the driver's door first, for I have noticed that if the problem is there, the others wont work. If the problem is not the soleniod, you will need to reset your alarm. I think disconnecting the battery for about twenty minutes will do just fine. Good luck

So I tried both suggestions. Spraying solenoid with lube and resetting the alarm but its made no difference. Its still making a weird sound like its stuck or something. Why do i get the feeling this might get expensive

i had the same problem. Mine got stuck in the locked position so i had a ferrari for a few days... was thinking of making my corsa a convertable! So just remove the driver door panel take a screwdriver and push it against the top of the solonoid. It should just snap out (if it is in locking position). Worked for me, and mine is still working perfectly.

Is the central locking on the Corsa's and Astra's the same?
I dunno if it makes a difference but I have a Autowatch alarm system in mine. Just thought I'd mention it.

do all the solenoids make the same sound or just the drivers?
and did your astra have central locking std or did you add it afterwards?

I was just the drivers side that made the noise. Gouraami wrote: and did your astra have central locking std or did you add it afterwards?
The car had central locking but a Autowatch alarm was fitted afterwards. This is what I was told when I bought the car. Is there any way I can verify it?

If you use the key it will move the solenoid, even if it is screwed or not so the rest should still lock/unlock.
If they added an autowatch 100% sure they woudn't have replaced the central locking, will still be OE.

Even if I use the key, the central locking still doesn't work.
So coming back to my original question, could it be my motor thats finished and if it is, how do I take it out?

is your petrol cap locking and the boot?
Check if the connection by the door is properly plugged in and not corroded (the black plug that connects everything in the door) + is the fuse good?

Nothing is locking, not the boot or the petrol cap Gouraami wrote: Check if the connection by the door is properly plugged in and not corroded (the black plug that connects everything in the door) + is the fuse good?
I have checked all the connections and they're all plugged in and looking fine.
