A colleague of mine experienced the same thing. Leave it maa because someone else told me they have it at home already, so I'll get a copy of it. Thanks, anyways. It's much appreciated!!

Ebie, Ubuntu is free and open-source Linux Operating System. We use Ubuntu as an alternative to Microsoft Windows.

And it's the most popular Linux distribution.

Ok nevermind...so its not software...its an Operating system. Next question woulda been whats Linux and "open-source" mean. Its not my area of expertise, so perhaps i shouldnt ask "dumb" questions

Open-source means you can look at the source code and make your own changes according to certain licenses, e.g. GPL and some others.
It doesn't mean the software is necessarily free. It just means that people can change it and look at it.
For example, MSX is open source because you can download the code from the internet and change it, if you know how to program.

Use a freedom toaster. Basically a touch screen with DVD burners. You put in your cd/dvds, select the distro of Linux you want and it burns it for you. Totally free. They have all the linux distros you can imagine and all the versions too aswell as other linux software. Toaters can be found at: Quote: UCT Computer Science Building Ground Floor Adjacent to UCT Shuttleworth Lab. Contact: Stefano Rivera - leg (at) rivera.za.net

Topper organised the installation for me. So I can puff-puff-give when I am done with it.
There's Wubi on the disc as well, so you can decide to run Ubuntu as an "application" under Windows to decide if you like it or not.
