Boring update, but also for me to log when certain jobs were done. I still don't own a service book  Since I bought the car the steering rack was never centered. Initially I knew something was wrong as the passenger side wheel used to go against the gearbox at full lock. This didnt do the CV any good. I finally decided to attend to this. The only reason I could think of why someone would purposefully offset the center was due to a worn rack in the center position. After jacking up the car and feeling the center I couldn't find or feel any issues, so off to do alignment I went. This was the steering wheel position when the rack was center:  The position of the wheels when the rack was center:   The steering wheel is no longer an issue to remove:  The car definitely drives better with the rack centered. Autoquip for the win!:
