Incoming major post of note, brace yourselves, it's going to be substandard!

So, we start this adventure like this :

Once upon a time I was in Woodstock, just minding my own business when I saw an Astra in a sorry state. I decided to have a closer look at it only to discover this...



Nothing I've just posted has anything to do with the Jetta though. I just happened to see that, I mean, who does that even?

Anyways,

It actually started something like this <Dreamsequencegoeshere>

After slaving away my efforts finally paid off, I applied for a permanent position within the company that I was working for. Midway through December I received the call "You got the job", I kicked a fire hydrant and it hurt, but I was happy, the only other thing on my mind at the time was "WANT JETTA".

The hunt started off with many disappointing results, I was hoping to find myself a nice TDI or a clean 2.0, but after days of searching I found nothing, until one day, I was browsing the intertubes and came accross a lonely LA7W Reflex Silver Jetta 1.8T Highline Exec, the price was right, the colour was right, everything about it was just right.

I went to view the car and instantly fell in love, I did this 3 times before actually commiting, even after driving it for 10 metres I just couldn't remove myself from that car, it had to be mine. Not long after that I took delivery of the car. I also told myself I would do nothing to this car either, no mods, just driving and keeping her clean, but that idea didn't last.

Part 2 : The legend that just follows the first post, whatever

So a few days after I promised myself that I wouldn't do anything to my car, I dropped my car off with Amien at Evolution and he changed a few things, and when I came to collect my car, a permanent smile affixed on my face, I've never been happier, but I say that every time anyways.

Thereafter I took my car down to Jody at JVS Tuning to get some sort of indication of how much power I was making

and the std power is either 110kw or 132kw on the 1.8T .. based on the gains, I'm guessing you got the 132kw.
Unless of course you went through some serious upgrades

and oh ... personally I think a Camry is more of an old man's car than a Jetta, but hey

So, after a long time away I shall humbly enter this domain and present you all with a small update... Onward!

Our story continues with a genuine tale. A tale of dragons and loot, well, kinda...



The loot being spent on the dragon itself, a very timid dragon (Now with a roar, because 63mm, 1 box, wait, do dragons even roar?).

So what happened was, I was trying to park one day, and I failed miserable and scraped my 2-piece split Ronal against a curb, which made me extremely sad and I cried, which, in turn, made me get some steel rims + hubcaps in order to get my original wheels refurbished, which never happened.



Which led to this unsightly sight,





My car had become the most unintentional sleeper ever, and oh, I added some lower fog lights, so that I could, uh, well, they serve no purpose... (Haha, I mentioned that before didn't I? Silly me)

And whilst all that was happening, dad got a new toy, the car I had always wanted to buy. I love this thing :< It's like 110% Sport Luxury, an '06 Lexus IS250 6Sp A/T.





Then after some time, this happened I had to drive around with the MAF unplugged for quite some time, which was actually awesome, car runs so well with the MAF unplugged.



Thereafter I bought a Sebring MAF... never buy a Sebring MAF, for one the hesitation was maximum and secondly, 227g/s maximum reading every single time, wut?



And after that went, my suction jet pump decided to split (Literally), what a mission this was to change...



Thereafter it became the Lexus, buzzah!



At some stage I also added some OE Mudflaps, I love Mudflaps, especially OE ones.



And I went back to my original wheels (The one still has curb rash, but w/e, will be sorted sometime), I also removed one Fog Light because the bulb had exploded and I had no intention of replacing it.

Alright, so, that box that you just saw, well...

That, ladies and gentleman, was the FIS-Control I ordered last week from the FIS-Control Website owned by an awesome guy named Stefan and what he has done is he's created this little device in order to display ECU Parameters via the FIS display in the center of various models of VW and Audi instrument clusters (List is available on the Website).

A few pictures if I may? (However, I'm going to apologise for the TERRIBLE image quality, I don't have a proper camera so my camera phone had to suffice)



This is the unit itself, it's pretty compact so you're able to tuck it in somewhere behind the dash. The inputs on the side labelled A,B,C and D are used to send data to and from the cluster that it gets plugged into. The various inputs/outputs are specific to each model of supported vehicle and the appropriate cables are supplied with the unit.



On the other side we have an RS-232 port which one can use as an alternative to the OBD Port, it's also used to configure the car to accept the unit (If need be, it's all in the instruction manual on the website). The unit also incorporates Bluetooth capabilities which is pretty awesome as you can also use that to interface with VCDS and WBH-Diag, which is convenient as the unit gets hidden behind the dash.



Then on the other OTHER side of the unit there are various inputs and outputs for Relays, Sensors and EGT sensors, and that sorta thing which can be used to keep things neat. No more unnecessary hardware switches for various aftermarket devices.



These are the two cables that connect the car side of the instrument cluster to the FIS-Control and to the Cluster itself.



This side plugs directly into the instrument cluster.



These cables plug into the FIS-Control unit.

The FIS-Control unit works by fooling the cluster into thinking that a GPS Enabled OE Headunit is attached to the car and all the Data is sent to the display via the FIS-Display unit which connects to the ECU. It's basically PolarFIS for older VW/Audi vehicles.

The device itself is controlled using the MFA Stalk, once the vehicle is configured etc. the FIS-Control menu is accessed by holding the Up Key. (I don't have pictures of this because it was late and my hands are broken).

Pro's :

Provides accurate vehicle data based on ECU measured parameters
Allows one to check and clear error codes
Allows for an alternate method of interfacing with the cars ECU via VCDS and other applications
Is able to do logs and has a stopwatch feature
Has many different types of graphs so it can be set according to preference
Awesome graphics (Especially the Boost graph) as well as customisable start-up Logo's
If you have a Car-PC, you can connect it to the RS-232 (Com Port) and use it to display ID3 tags and the like.
It has Snake, seriously, you can play snake on your FIS display, like woah!

Con's :

One of the cables is a bit short depending on where you're wanting to place the unit. Mine is behind the drivers side fusebox
Again I'm an idiot because I bent one of the pins by mistake when attempted to connect everything together, I thought I had broken something, car wouldn't start because it couldn't see the cluster
The price perhaps, at 300 Euro's it isn't cheap, but heck, it's quality and it's definitely worth it.

All in all I'm extremely happy with my purchase, no regrets at all, if you have any questions about the device (Which I probably won't be able to answer), please visit the website or read the manual or mail Stefan himself.

If my review sucks, let me know, I'm bad at these sorts of things, I always tend to leave something out (Like photo's of the installation which I wasn't able to get).

Aight! Aight? Here's another small update...

So, things that have happened since last week :

I got this in the mail :




And at first I was like



But when it came to actually fitting the thing I was all like



I raged so hard that not even Kratos would touch me with a 10 foot pole. I had to summon the might of the Gods just to get the lower PCV hose + O-Ring back onto the PCV Valve. I suffered injuries that soldiers wouldn't even be able to fathom. Knuckles as raw as sushi, more cuts than a kid in a school still using corporal punishment. It was a nightmare, but I made it through somehow.

Those PCV Hoses were full of rubbish, I'm glad I replaced that entire section.



I also did this, just because, don't judge, it's small and out of the way...



Spot the cheap chinese replica center cap, however, I bought 3 because one of mine is already an OE part but the one that I had before I purchased these is a different shape :_( SIGH!



And then this... THIS... I bought a Replica replacement front spoiler... it's such a terrible quality part that after 30 minutes of struggling, I put my original front spoiler back on and hot glued the parts that were worn and broken. I'll buy an OE bumper + front spoiler off some written off Jetta when I have the chance to.

Not Pictured : Full Interior LED Lighting (Incl. Rear Alarm Sensors)

Other relevant information :

Clutch switch is fried and probably always has been hence the high revs between shifts and the non-functioning cruise control
Coolant Temperature sensor is buggered hence the car has been hesitating, the sensor reads at 83 Degrees when the car is warm
Getting some strange MAF and Boost Readings : 1.47 Bar Spike which tapers off to 1.2 Bar and 191 g/s with a stock Airbox and OE Air Filter
