Hey to all yet again, Old member, have not been on the site for AGES,

Last year or the year before that even, i had a thread up on modding a c16se head, Porting/match Flow, STK Cam, valves, springs, Retainers etc.

Since then i have come to learn, That STK are terrible cams, i have read this from many different people on many different forums, and from people here who are into racing.

Luckily, perhaps blessing in disguise, life happened and i was not able to follow through with my plans on doing the head modifications stated above.

I am back in the scene, just had my car resprayed and new wheels put on, feeling more appreciative of the car and feeling that drive to want to start modding and working on it again as i once did.

Now, i am in the market for buying a second hand head, now i have been told to first take the head to a engineering workshop for them to first test it to see if its work buying to be worked on to modify.

I have a local friend who has 2 C16SE heads laying around, and is willing to sell them, my one mate who does track racing here in Port Elizabeth at Aldo Scrabante has forwarded me to a reputable Engineering workshop who can do the correct testing on the head etc.

So that out the way,

Lets say i have the head now, Its been cleared for modding by the engineering shop, i am in need of wanting it to be Port Matched and Gas Flowed ( should i get the Intake Port Matched and Exhaust Port Matched, sorry i am still a n00b but willing to learn) Where all should i get Gas Flowed? intake and Exhaust, and what else if i have missed something?

Okay so now lets say i have got all the head machining out the way, Porting and flowing etc,

STK is out of the option, So i have read that Estas Cams are really good. but i am still left in a bit of a predicament, Estas only does cams? what about valves, valve springs, retainers etc.. Reason i am asking is because i would prefer to rather uprate everything that works with the cam as i see this being a more reliable option in the long term, and perhaps performance wise it would be beneficial as well.

So if STK is out of the question, What would you all recommend would be the better option to go for, Brand wise, throw a name and i can start phoning around for prices and do some research on the net, Remember i would want to use a brand that sells, Uprated Valves, springs, retainers etc.

Now that i look at cams, i need to think about, what do i want out of it. I understand there will be differences in normal drive ability the more severe the cam starts to be, Struggling to Idle, over fueling and hus and poeping etc.

Truth be told, i really don't have much experience and knowledge on what size cams people are fitting to their Street cars, This will be a daily, and i will need to take that into account, but at the same time, i dont want to be to conservative either because then whats the point of doing the cam in the first place. So i need to find out, from you guys that have done this all already, What to expect with what profile cams.

I hear a 270 cam is pretty average profiled street cam, now if i go any bigger perhaps a 272 or 276, am i being a bit extreme? the bigger cam i go the less drive ability i get for a daily i get. But is there a flat line where the bigger cam i go does not necessarily mean more power gains.

My question is, What would you guys Recommend for my c16se head? 270 or 272? or 276?

Now that i got all the head done, its time to take it to a reputable Mechanic, with my Payen head set. Throw the complete head on.

BUT, management is now a definite thing, I have researched that a lot of the C16SE restrictions lay in the management.

Problem is, I will NOT go stand alone management, i don't like the idea of a unqualified auto electrician cutting wires in my car, UNIQ Will be my only option.

I've read some good reviews on UNIQ Piggyback Chips, Anyone in Port Elizabeth know a good place to go to get a UNIQ installed and Mapped correctly?

AutoGraph Racing is one of the only guys that so far has been refered to me.

Thank you all for any answers to one of these many questions i have thrown at you

Kind Regards

David

Popular one is 272 cam with Uniq on the 1600.
276 with uniq will work aswell, will just have a rough idle.

Hey Mr Wez,

Thank you for the reply,

276 would be a bit crazy? that would be quite a wild cam? i think id go inbetween a 270 and a 276 a 272 i rate would be my better option, but do you know where the peak power would sit with a 272 cam?

Another questions, Estas dont do 272 cams for my motor, just 270's .. what other brands do you know of that sells 272 cams for a 1600 8v opel?

276 is not that wild, its, just a longer duration cam than the 270. Hence the rough idle. But will drive fine.
if you want in between from estas, you could go for a 270 high lift cam if they dont have 272.
Peak power...i cant really say....but can expect peak power at about 5500rpm +-.

if you keen on the 272, the other places that can provide you with cams is Camtech and Goch and Cooper. Both supply billet cams for corsa's.

Thanks a ton!

By the way, do you know if Camtech, or cooper or goch sell Uprated Retainers/ Valves / Valve Springs etc?

That sounds like headaches?

I wouldn't know where to start with that modification,

Could you guide me through the basic steps?

:2thumbsup:
