Hi guys.

Please find attached an email that was sent to Piatto Midlands as well as their head office. I was told that I would be contacted after this matter was investigated. Up to today almost a month later they have not yet contacted me eventhough I sent a follow up email. I will never support Piatto (especially Piatto Midlands Mall) again and I would not recommend Piatto to any one as none of the managment even had the decency to pick up the phone and apologise. I am going to now email them this link as well as the email to the witness. Please read below and tell me if you agree.

Thank you for this opportunity to comment on the service that I received on 14th February 2009 at Piatto – Liberty Midlands Mall.


I am a frequent customer at Piatto at the Liberty Midlands Mall and at Mandla Square in Sandton. I took my wife on Valentines Day to Piatto at about 7:30pm. I was asked by an Indian gentleman at the door if I had a reservation. I told him that I had sadly not made a booking. To my joy he offered me a vacant table that he had outside. I asked if he had chocolate parcels in stock and he said that he did. As we walked to the table he asked if that (chocolate parcels) were all we were having. When I told him that we had just come for dessert he said that he could not accommodate us as he was only serving food and we were turned away.


I find this very disappointing. I must say that it was a very embarrassing moment and that I can truly say that I have never had that ever happen to me before. It appears that you were chasing sales on the day rather than customer loyalty and customer satisfaction. I have (wrongly) recommended various people to Piatto. I have had various business meeting with clients and staff, from out of town, at Piatto. I am very disappointed as to the treatment that I received. I wanted to treat my wife to her favorite dessert on a very special day of the year, but the evening turned out to be very disheartening. Logically speaking, Piatto would have made R45 from me for the chocolate parcels in 10 to 15 minutes of seating time at most. There after the table would have been vacant and ready for the next customer! So am I off the understanding that you only offer table to customers that order for a certain amount. If so then this is very silly business practice!!



I am considering drafting a similar email to The Witness re this matter but thought that I would give you a chance to look in to this matter before I go to the press.



I trust that this matter would be dealt with as soon as possible.

Mr. Govender - this is terrible, I can understand exactly how you feel & what's the worst part is that it was on Valentines Day!

Unfortunately lot's of restuarants do this & I can't understand why they would not want to make money instead of acting snobbish, which is what they did in your case....

Is this Mall near Pietermaritzburg?

The Mall is the biggest mall in PMB. They only seemed to be chasing the sales. Very sad indeed. I hope that I manage to convince some people not to support the mall branch. I pray no one goes through the embarassment that I went through

Just to keep you posted, I just received a voucher from Piatto, which I will NOT personally use, with an apology from the manager of the store. Its sad that one would have to go to that extremes before a resolution is found. I posted this mail on 10 forums and emailed Piatto all the links.

Guys don't accept poor service from anyone.
