23 August - MSA Drags / Killarney International Raceway
DRAG RACING – KILLARNEY SATURDAY 23rd AUG 2014: 9am-5pm
Killarney will play host to MSA Drag racing, Short Circuit Racing and Karting this coming Saturday 23rd August.
The straight line action is scheduled to kick off at 9am with practice sessions while the competitions will run from mid-morning to late afternoon followed by some open sessions to close the day.
This event will see Cape Town quarter mile experts being challenged by Team “Bionic Racing” making their way down from PE. This event is going to be a “Eastern vs Western” province battle. There are as many as seven cars expected to make their way to Cape Town, these include the likes of:
Ashraf Rangasamy in his 2L naturally aspirated VW Mk1 Golf, Ashraf will be hoping to improve on his best recorded time of 12,7 seconds over the quarter mile. NazeemSirkottee will be flying the PE flag high on his twincam1.6L turbo charged Toyota.Nazeem’s best time has been a 11,6 seconds. They will be supported by Clayton Rockman (13,5 second 2L 16 valve VW Mk1 Golf), Dean Moodley (13,4 second 3,4L Ford Sierra), Justin Muller (13,4 second 3SGE beams Toyota Corrola). ZiyaadSoloman will be bringing his 13,8 second SR20 Nissan Sentra. There is apparently another Mk1 Golf as well as a Toyota Conquest joining them for the day. All these “out of towners” will make for some very interesting racing on the day.
Newly completed stands and viewing areas are now available to the spectators, the viewing stand close to the drags start line have now been covered. In addition to these improvements, the area behind the scrutineering area has been enlarged and will allow more pit area for the competitors.
Entries and MSA licence applications will be available at the main gate caravan from 7.30am till 10.30am while scrutineering will remain open till 11am. MSA social licences are available for all streetcars (provided you don’t go quicker than 12,5 seconds) at a cost of R270. The MSA licence is valid till the end of the year.
