PS3 my personal favourite but you will get allot of guys tell you they like the xbox (dont know why) ps2 is the ps3 predisessor majour diffrences: Ps 3 Wierless controlls Usb onboard hard drive great graffics priced from R2000 to R3500 new games are R500 +/- Blue ray - can play movies and so on and so forth Ps2 Controls has wiers but you can buy wierless ones for the PS2 no usb Nice graffics and lots of games available Not sure what they go for now Just play games from console I would say get the ps3 not sure how old your son is but he will love PS3 unless he is like 7 or 8 years old. diffrents between Ps3 and Xbox: PS3 is just much much better

You pay about R1500 for a new one. and games go from R50 to R250.. lots of games for cheap.. but the ps3 and xbox are better but also more expensive.. So i think it depends on how much you really wanna spend.. Like im not gonna spent R3000 on a ps3 and R500 for a game.. I'll save that up until i can do a engine conversion .. but thats just me.. thats why i bought diablos 2nd hand ps2.. so i can just chill when ive got nothing to do..

Please note: not promoting piracy but if you can save why not lol i will take a PS2 over a Xbox anyday

I dont know much about the ps3 and a chip. But the steering wheel you saw was probably a ps2 one cause it might be 2nd and at cash crusaders. But in sure youll get a ps3 one aswell. But im also not that familiar with the gaming stuff so lets see what the experts say.

Ok, major differences between a PS3 and Xbox. PS3 supports resolutions up to 1080p and Xbox only supports, up to 1080i, but you hardly notice the difference. PS3 has blue ray, Xbox doesn't. Xbox can be flashed and then you get alot of games for cheap. Xbox has a nicer controller as well, you just need to get used to it. Xbox ftmfw

The logiteck controllers works on PS3 and there is a usb devise that you plug in which allows you to make images of the PS3 games on either an external drive or on the consoles hardrive itself, I dont have one and dont know of anyone thathas it already so i am not sure if it realy works.

I've had a PS2 - brilliant little thing - also got me a Logitech force feedback steering wheel. Have subsequently sold the PS2, but I still have the steering wheel. The wheel also works on PC games and PS3 consoles ..tried and tested. Later got me an XBOX360 after the PS3 failed to show for about a zillion years. Also got me the MS force feedback steering wheel for this one ... AWESOME!! My daughter also has a Wii - another console for you to consider!! Never had a PS3, but have played on 'em plenty. My personal opinion: - XBOX technology is slightly older than PS3, hence the PS3 got somewhat better graphics. Also has a blu-ray drive, meaning watching HD movies without having to get another player. - PS3 games are generally the most expensive of all the consoles ... last Xmas certain new PS3 titles were going for R999!! - I love the interactiveness of the Wii games and I would seriously suggest you consider this too. YES, the PS3 has the new MOVE / eye-toy, but games are still very limited and will take some time before developers realise the full potential Same on the XBOX with the new Kinect being released in November. Online reviews are already saying that the PS3 def is the way to go in terms of gaming in the Wii style, but the Kinect features a bunch of other stuff, like voice commands and zero controllers - your body IS the controller. What I would say is, determine what kinda games your kid would like, taking into account age and if he is an avid gamer or occasional player, cost of games, etc ... Hence the reason I settled on the Wii for my 10 year old daughter. an oh ... btw .. I remember reading something just last week about a possible software crack for the PS3 .. can't remember any of the details, but if I find it, I'll post it here.

Software crack for the PS3 puts it into Dev mode, allowing you to copy games to the HDD.
