The silver screen gets a touch of pink this October
The annual Out In Africa Gay And Lesbian Film Festival runs from the 21 – 30 October at the Nu Metro Cinema at the V&A Waterfront. The Festival consists of 7 features, 3 documentaries and 2 short films.
Highlights of the OIA Film Festival 2011:
World Premières of two SA documentary films – Breaking Out of the Box about a number of strong black women who’ve been and done it for themselves and us, and Whisper not where another number of people, black white straight gay HIV+, speak up for themselves and us.
On the international front the festival will host Dee Rees and her award-winning, Sundance-opening feature Pariah.
Other award-winners include Canada’s enfant terrible and Pedro-Almodovar-in-the-making, Xavier Dolan in his own Les Amours imaginaires (Heartbeats). Heart-throb James Franco is Allen Ginsburg in the Festival’s Opener Howl.
The muscle mafia is out in The Adonis Factor and not to be outdone the girls are in and out and in, of a hotel Room in Rome.
And last, but not least and in alpha-order, are Going Down in La-La Land, Gun Hill Road and Heart Breaks Open.
Tickets cost R45p/p and the ceremony is to be opened by Lindiwe Mazibuko.
