Is this match being played in Cape Town?

I heard yesterday the Cape Town fan fests are only for Bafana games, Cape Town games, and knock-out round games.

Oh, okay. I heard on the radio that people pitched up but nothing official was happening.

Anyways, here's the official schedule for Vygieskraal for those who are interested:

Well, you can find all information here.

http://www.capetown.gov.za/en/FIFA2010/ ... igies.aspx
Quote:
Like the three other fan jols that the City has set up for the benefit of fans who don’t have tickets, the Vygieskraal fan jol will be open on all Cape Town Stadium match days, all Bafana Bafana match days, the quarter finals, the semi finals and the finals.

I know there were people there over the weekend, that's why they specifically made this announcement that people should NOT have been there.

But anyways, maybe I have old information and the web-sites are out-of-date.

some info I got from LUPI .

All 64 World Cup matches will be screened on an enormous 74 sqm screen, one of the biggest structures ever to be erected in South Africa and first used by FIFA during the German World Cup.

The Fan Fest will be open daily between 11h00 and 23h00 and the entertainment line-up will include headline acts, as well as talented emerging artists from throughout Cape Town. All music tastes will be catered for from jazz to rock, pop, R&B, hip hop, reggae, dance, traditional African music and much more.

Lesley de Reuck, 2010 Director Operations from the City of Cape Town said, “The purpose of the Fan Fest is to offer a safe, convenient and convivial alternative to being at the stadium. Soccer fans who weren’t able to get tickets can still watch the match live and get to experience the excitement and thrill of being caught up in the roar of the crowd.”

Everything you need to know about the FIFA Fan Fest

Location: Grand Parade
Capacity: 25 000
Opening Hours: 11h00 to 23h00
Entrance: Free
Distance to Airport: 22km
Distance to Stadium: 2.6 km

• What is the Cape Town FIFA Fan Fest?
It is the official host city match viewing and entertainment hub during the duration of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

• How does it differ from other ‘Fan’ entertainment on offer in Cape Town?
The Cape Town FIFA Fan Fest will open every day between 11h00 and 23h00, from 10 June to 11 July, and will screen all 64 World Cup matches. The Fan Fest will also open on the six non-match rest days.
The Fan Walk is a 2.6km dedicated pedestrian walk from Darling Street in the Cape Town CBD to Green Point. Local vendors and entertainers will line the route on the days that matches are played in Cape Town. The Fan Walk is only in operation on the eight Cape Town match days.
Four official Fan Jols, also referred to as Public Viewing Areas [PVAs], will screen the Cape Town matches but will be closed on all other days. These will be situated in the Bellville Velodrome off Durban Road, Vygieskraal Stadium in Athlone, OR Tambo Sports Hall in Khayelitsha and Swartklip Sports Stadium in Mitchells Plain.

• What will happen at the Fan Fest?
In addition to watching live match broadcasts, visitors can expect to be entertained by laser light displays, an interactive activity zone, local talent, popular bands, entertainers and DJs. Stalls will offer food, refreshments, art and crafts and branded merchandise will be available at the official FIFA Fan Store.

• Who can enter the Fan Fest and what will it cost?
Entry is free. The Fan Fest is open to anyone wishing to enter however minors under the age of 14 will have to be accompanied by an adult. Right of admission is also reserved and anyone displaying anti-social behaviour or under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be denied access.

• Is there a special entrance I need to use to access the Fan Fest?
A specially constructed wall will enclose the recently upgraded Grand Parade area during the period of the World Cup. Visitors will enter the Fan Fest through two entry points at Darling Street off Plein Street and Longmarket Street off Buitenkant.

Health, safety and security

• Will I be safe inside the Fan Fest?
Event organizers Grand World Vision [GWV] have put stringent security measures in place at the Grand Parade. These include private security and SAPs personnel, CCTV cameras and other security arrangements.

Observers will monitor the area and rowdiness or anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
For assistance inside the Fan Fest, the uniformed SAPS and private security officers will be easily identifiable.

• Will there be security checks at the entrance, and will this create long queues?
All entrants will have to pass through a security check point where their bags will be searched for prohibited items. Several security points will be set up at both entrances to alleviate long queues.
A special queue will be available for the disabled, pensioners and mothers with young babies as well as members of the media.

• How will crowds be controlled to avoid the crush that took place in Long Street recently?
The Grand Parade has capacity for 25 000. Numbers will be strictly monitored and entrances to the Fan Fest will be closed immediately when this number has been reached. People queuing outside will be informed by guards on duty. Alerts will be issued via radio stations and highly visible signs erected around the Fan Fest will direct visitors to other areas in the city which still have capacity.

Transport and parking

• Where can I park my car?
Aside from private parking such as the Golden Acre and the Pickbel Arcade, there are 6 000 casual parking bays available in and around the City. However, visitors are urged not to drive into the City but to make use of public transport. (NB. There will be 68000 people making their way to the stadium on the 11th and 25000 to the Fan Park in town. Plus 15000 on the overflows. ONLY 6000 parking. Suggestion: Use public transport. Trains will run 4 hours before and 4 hours after the event. Lorna)

• What alternatives are there to private cars?
Special buses and trains will transport visitors from areas outside of the CBD to the Cape Town train station and bus terminus, ideally situated next to the Grand Parade.

• Where are the special park-and-ride facilities?
All days:
Goodwood – parking at Grand West Casino & Entertainment World
Brackenfell – station parking
Fish Hoek – beach parking area
Claremont – parking on Palmyra Road, east of the station
Kuilsriver – station parking
Century City – parking at Ratanga Junction with a shuttle service to the station
Ottery – parking at the Youth Care Centre [opposite the Church]
Retreat – station parking
Oosterzee – parking at Settlers High School
Strand – parking at the municipal building opposite the station

Match days only [facilities will operate from four hours before kick-off and until four hours after the final whistle]:
Kronendal Primary School sports field off Andrews Road in Hout Bay
Camps Bay High School sports field in Maiden’s Cove off Victoria Road
University of Cape Town’s Upper Campus in Rondebosch

Grand West offers security controlled parking. Additional security will also be available at Eersterivier, Heideveld, Khayelitsha, Kraaifontein, Langa, Lansdowne, Monte Vista, Muizenberg, Nyanga, Philippi and Plumstead.

\

• How will I get from the Grand Parade Fan Fest to the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point?
Visitors to the Fan Fest can either follow the clear signage from the Grand Parade to the start of the pedestrian Fan Walk through the CBD to Green Point, or they can catch the new inner-city bus service at the corner of Darling and Buitenkant Street and change at Civic Centre Station onto the Stadium Shuttle.

• What food items will be available inside the Fan Fest?
Traditional and popular dishes will be available which include Malay chicken curry, lamb neck poitjie, vegetable soup, lasagne, boerewors rolls, beef burgers, chicken prego rolls, French fries, calamari, fish goujons and hot dogs. Snacks, hot and cold drinks will also be sold. Halaal and vegetarian dishes will be available.

• Will alcohol be available?
Wine, beer and soft drinks will be on sale inside the Fan Fest.

• Will I get value for money from the food and refreshment stalls inside the Fan Fest?
Costs range between R15 and R25 for the food menu, R10 – R20 for soft drinks and Beer.

Entertainment

• What headline acts and other entertainment can I expect?
Aside from the local talent shows, the Fan Fest will host themed days in celebration of occasions such as Youth Day and the nationalities of soccer teams playing matches in the city. The themes will be reflected in the food offerings, entertainment and interactive crowd activities.

Headline acts will include the likes of Jimmy Dludlu, Goldfish, Flat Stanley, Freshly Ground and Prime Circle. Watch the press for further details.

• What seating options are available for shows and screenings or will I have to stand?
1600 Undercover grandstand seats are available, and can be booked via Geraldine Petersen [021 426 5775 or Geraldine@worldsport.co.za]. Packages vary from between R225 and R1500.

A dedicated viewing area with wheelchair access has been set aside for the disabled.

Tables and chairs will be available in the Chill Zone.

• Will there be sufficient toilets and will the area be clean?
There will be more than sufficient ablution facilities and the City will ensure that the area is kept clean.

• Will translators be available?
The clearly marked information kiosk will be able to assist all visitors.

• How big is the screen on which the matches will be screened?
Matches will broadcast on a 74sqm screen which is 20sqm larger than the one used at the Long Street Draw.

• Will the Fan Fest be closed if it rains?
The entertainment line-up will not be cancelled because of rain so visitors are advised to bring warm, weather-friendly clothes with them.

18 June: England vs Algeria

That's the one on the Parade that is open for all 64 games; not the other ones in Cape Town.
