Sanlam Private Investments (SPI)

SPI is a cluster within Sanlam Investments and is a specialised investment house that manages assets for affluent private individuals, cultural organisations, charitable institutions and similar entities with investable assets of more than R1 million. They have the necessary capabilities and systems to provide a wide range of investment services, including domestic and offshore investment portfolios, stockbroking and allied services.


Position Description



Based in Cape Town, the IT team is small and passionate about their specialization and has a strong sense of teamwork. The purpose of the role is to build bespoke SQL solutions to meet the needs of the business.

Primary purpose
The primary responsibilities are in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of SQL solutions for business applications. Expertise in such areas as database objects (stored procedures, user defined functions, tables, views, indexes, etc.), SSIS is essential. Additional responsibilities will include optimisation of existing code. The successful candidate MUST be able to interact effectively with business oriented customers, as well as management staff and other development personnel.


Key Responsibilities







Work closely with development team to design and implement SQL solutions and integrations for business applications.

Perform requirements gathering and analysis working closely with business owners and other development team members.

Ensure standardization of SQL coding practices and adherence to coding standards, change control, and SQL best practices.

Performs problem resolution and root cause analysis along with recommending and implementing preventative techniques.


Minimum Requirements







Bachelor’s degree in computer science or Diploma in IT preferred or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Competencies





Minimum 5+ years of practical experience with SQL Server (e.g. 2000, 2005, 2008).

Minimum 5+ years scripting, tuning, debugging, troubleshooting and other advanced SQL concepts.

Demonstrated expertise in production control and change management methodologies.

Expert knowledge of

SQL Server Management Studio

SQL Server Integration Services

SQL Server Reporting Services

SQL Server Analysis Services : Beneficial but not required

Knowledge of SQL Server administrative tools including SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Profiler, SQL Server Agent would be beneficial but not required

Experience with the use of C#.NET or VB.NET will be an advantage.

Expert Transact- SQL skills and the ability to create complex queries, stored procedures, triggers, user-defined functions, views, and other database objects.

Experience in the financial services industry will be an advantage.
